Best Orlando Day Spas for Microdermabrasion

February 24, 2010 by Spa Maven

If you’ve been keeping up with your facials but your skin is still looking a little dull, you may be a good candidate for a deeper exfoliation treatment called microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is available at several day spas in Orlando — and for a relatively affordable price!

Most Orlando day spas charge between $100 to $150 for a treatment, and some include a chemical peel or facial with the treatment so that your skin can heal and renew itself at a faster rate.

What is Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating treatment that buffs away dead skin cells and stimulates circulation. The treatment usually involves passing a wand with a suction device over the skin. The wand acts as a light sanding agent that gently scrapes away the top layer of skin, and the suction device pulls the dead skin cells off the skin to clear up congestion. The result is a very smooth, clean and polished surface.

Benefits of Orlando Microdermabrasion

Some of the key benefits of microdermabrasion treatments at Orlando day spas include:

  • Tightens and tones the skin
  • Clears pores
  • Increases collagen production
  • Makes skin more resilient
  • Buffs away fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces appearance of age spots
  • Evens out a rough skin tone
  • Reduces appearance of shallow scars (including acne scars)

Orlando Day Spas Offering Microdermabrasion

Ready to give your skin a refresher this season? Here are some of the best Orlando day spas to get your microdermabrasion treatment:

Each of these Orlando day spas offer 50 minute to 80 minute microdermabrasion and facial treatments, and some include a relaxing facial massage with the service. Whether your goal is to lighten up skin pigmentation or just freshen up for the season, you can benefit from a microdermabraison treatment once every four to six weeks.

Orlando Spa Network Tip: If you want to maintain results, ask the day spa about package options. Several Orlando day spas offer a discount for booking microdermabrasion packages of six or more treatments!

Keep in mind that you may not be a good candidate for microdermabrasion if you’re taking certain types of supplements, are on an acne treatment plan or have are pregnant. Make sure you check with your physician before starting treatment, and communicate all the medications you are taking to your esthetician so that they can recommend a treatment plan that’s right for you.

Top Orlando Day Spas for a Thai Massage

Are you a fan of yoga or pilates? Need to work out some kinks and tension? You could be a good candidate for Thai massage, a form of bodywork that is now available at several great day spas around Orlando.

Unlike regular massages performed on a massage table, the Thai massage involves deep stretching and posing on the floor and is a type of “guided” massage.

What is Thai Massage?

Thai Massage is believed to have been developed more than 2,500 years ago in India and was – and is – performed as part of Thai medicine. The primary goal of Thai massage is to stretch the legs, arms, back, shoulders, neck and core muscles to release tension and reduce stress. Thai massage is meant to be both a relaxing and energizing treatment, because the therapist releases tension that’s built up in your joints and muscles and increases your natural energy flow.

Benefits of a Thai Massage

Some of the top benefits of Thai massage include:

  • Improves flexibility
  • Regulates energy levels
  • Promotes restful sleep
  • Increases flexibility
  • Improves circulation in the joints and muscles
  • Encourages deep relaxation
  • Reduces stress

Orlando Day Spas Offering Thai Massage

Ready to enjoy the Thai massage experience? Many Orlando day spas and health centers offer Thai massage services priced between $140 to $200 or more for a 90 minute session.

Set your sights on some of these Orlando day spas for your next appointment:

Since the treatment is performed fully clothed, you can return to regular activities shortly after your session.

Keep in mind that you’ll need to drink lots of water to help your muscles heal and restore themselves after the treatment, and you may need to avoid eating a heavy meal for several hours after treatment to avoid discomfort.

Spa Review: Blush Day Spa, Orlando

Spa Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

If you’re a resident of Altamonte Springs, you won’t want to miss the blissful escape hidden in the shopping plaza off I-4. If you’re not a local, take the short drive up to Blush Day Spa for the royal treatment. A recent spa visit was  welcome retreat from a stressful work week, and I settled in for a Hot Stone Massage treatment (55 minutes, $70).

Inside Blush Day Spa

Blush Day Spa is decorated like an exotic spa sanctuary, a beautifully-furnished spa that will transport you to another world. The lobby area shares a space with the manicure and pedicure stations, and these look like regal thrones lined up against the side wall.

When you walk back into the treatment area, you’ll find several treatment rooms lined on either side of a long hallway, and a large waterfall at the end. Behind the waterfall is a spacious relaxation area, furnished with oversized recliners, sofas and an antique table stocked with teas, baked treats and snacks. This is an idyllic place to relax before and after any service, enjoy lunch during your spa day, or just meet with friends before your spa retreat begins.

Hot Stone Massage Experience

The Hot Stone Massage experience at Blush Day Spa begins with a short introduction and the laying of the stones on the bed. You’re laid down gently on top of a mini-bed of hot rocks covered in a towel, and you’ll start to relax within minutes.

The therapist begins the service with a shoulder, neck and arm massage, followed by the hot stone application for deeper relaxation. The stones are tucked between the massage bed and your body at various intervals throughout the treatment to deliver the soothing heat deep into the tissues.

The treatment ends with the laying of the stones along the spine, and a deep tissue back massage.

Highlights of Blush Day Spa

Blush Day Spa of Orlando has recently introduced a Membership program where spa regulars pay just $59 per month for a choice of a single 60-minute service, or $109 per month for a choice of two 60 minute services.  More information about the Membership program can be found here.

Haven’t visited this spa yet? If you’re a first-time client, be sure to advantage of the introductory offer of $39 for any one hour service!

Blush Day Spa is located at 9439 Forest City Cove in Altamonte Springs, a short drive from downtown Orlando. Call (407) 770-6666 for more information.

beauty-foodsEating a healthy diet and maintain a balanced lifestyle are essential for keeping your skin and hair looking young, and experts agree that there are certain foods that can make your skin glow and stay radiant season after season.

The Fall and winter months may call for some changes to your diet, so make sure you’re packing a nutritious punch into each meal with the following nine beauty foods:

1. Pears. Pears are a great Fall fruit to add to your diet, and can be enjoyed as a snack, dessert, or even as part of breakfast. Pears are rich in antioxidants and vitamins, and can be a great change of pace from your daily apple habit.

2. Walnuts. Walnuts are rich in alpha linoeic acid, an essential nutrient for maintaining healthy skin. You can sprinkle walnuts into your granola or oatmeal in the morning, or add it to muffins and other Fall treats for a boost of nutrition.

3. Pumpkin. Whether you enjoy it straight from the can or mix it into your baked goods, pumpkin is a great way to boost your nutrition count this season. Pumpkin is full of beta carotene and other antioxidants, and is a nutritious filler ingredient for muffins, cakes and other treats this season.

4. Dark chocolate. Bring on the dark chocolate to enjoy a dose of antioxidants – and a quick mood lift. The darker and purer, the better.

5. Spinach. Load up on the leafy greens this season to add vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to your weekly meals. Both fresh and cooked spinach have a number of health ahd beauty benefits, and you can incorporate this vegetable into almost any dish.

If your skin needs a refresher for the season, don’t miss out out on the chance to get gorgeous with an antioxidant facial or moisturizing body treatment. Many Orlando day spas are offering decadent treatments just for the Fall and winter season so that you can maintain that healthy glow.

Combine your spa regimen with a diet full of these top beauty foods to keep your skin glowing and healthy all season long!

Spoil Yourself with a Deluxe Manicure

deluxe-manicureIf you’re a regular mani-client, you’ve probably come across a lineup of signature and deluxe services available at your favorite spa. But what really is the difference between the regular manicure and the deluxe? Is it better to save or splurge on that nail buffing, shaping and polishing session?

Here’s what you need to know about deluxe manicure and pedicure services:

The Deluxe Manicure: What to Expect

The standard manicure typically includes a brief nail soak, polish removal, cuticle and nail shaping, and the application of a new coat of polish. The price of the average standard manicure service in Orlando is about $12 to $20 depending on the spa, and the service usually lasts about 30 minutes.

The Deluxe Manicure service usually lasts between 45 to 60 minutes and will give you all the basics of th standard manicure, but with the addition of a hand massage, revitalizing exfoliation of the hands and arms, mostiurizer, extensive buffing and polishing of the nails, and a professional nail polish application. Some spas in Orlando also include a warm towel wrap and a heated masque as part of the service.

Reasons to Splurge on the Deluxe

Just a few reasons why it’s worth the splurge for the deluxe manicure:

  • Buff away dead skin cells from your hands and arms
  • Enjoy a brief massage session
  • Immerse your cuticles in essential oils
  • Up to an hour of pampering (yes, you need that break)

If you can splurge on this type of manicure service at least once per month, you can keep your hands and nails in great shape.
